I pledge to call it what it is.
Period.
As long as we skirt around the language, we’ll lack body literacy.
Pledge to make a tiny but important change to get on the same page. The more who pledge, the bigger our voice, the faster our progress.
It’s time to just …

We won’t do anything dodgy with your data – we simply want a force of numbers to push for change.
#SayPeriod
Why it matters?
- There’s ~5,000 euphemisms for period … isn’t it time we get on the same page?
- For centuries the period ‘code’ has built shame and silence into what’s natural
- This was a breakout year for women’s sport – we can keep momentum going
- Anyone can make this change: #SayPeriod and pass it on
Language comes first. Then it is normalised. Then we’re cohesive, focused. And action will follow.
Call it what it is.

The Period Manifesto
Redesign the System
The Well HQ are on a mission to Redesign the System and real change starts with the right language.
The code has to go
Since forever, women’s natural processes have been talked about in code, stigma and shame.
An excuse for inaction
The mystery allows decision-makers and institutions to dodge action and bury their heads in the sand.
We’re limiting her
The status quo compromises athlete health and safety; it limits individuals’ potential and societal progress.
And history repeats
Girls feel self-conscious, like outsiders who don’t belong in sport, hence they drop out at twice the rate of boys.
The elite need answers
Some top athletes have started calling out the lack of research and info.
There’s something wrong here
Elite athletes don’t know enough … and they too talk in code.
This has to change
Join dozens of medal winners, competitors, and tomorrow’s superstars in a pledge.
Her future
When we acknowledge her, every bit of her, we can all help her carve a future without limits.

Euphemisms distort the language of female health. The ‘code’ has been with us for centuries yet its drawbacks play out in doctor surgeries, classrooms, gyms and even elite sport to this day.
